Top Three Reasons Americans Accumulate Such Large Amounts of Debt

by Steve Bis

Credit card debt and other unsecured debts have come to be a major problem for the greater part of families in the U.S. Debtors have become to acclimated to just using their plastic card to get whatever they want, whenever they want it, without sincerely having the ability to pay for it. Below I will list the top reasons that people wind up becoming so swamped with credit card debt.

1. Impulse Buying and Harmful Spending Habits!

Buying impulsively demonstrates a lack of self-discipline. People will simply notice something in a shop and pay for it on their card, all due to that they cannot show some patience in getting, whatever item it is they bought, regardless of whether they have the cash for it then or not. Credit cards feed the fire of impulsive buying that is what the cards are there for to keep happy our need for instant gratification. You know there is a motto "patience is a virtue" if some individuals adopted that law they would never accrue those massive debts.

Weak spending routines run along the same line as buying on impulse. Some individuals just pamper themselves way to often in life. A good example might be, someone might go to a four star restaurant, and instead of getting a hamburger and chips, they get the NY strips, the pre meal appetizer or two, the drink special, and the ice cream special. Par for the course they charge it on their credit cards. Now I am not saying that to splurge every once in a while is bad, but for some debtors it is a everyday occurance. And these poor spending routines can stack up to a skyscraper of debt in a rather fast time period.

My Advice: Next time you are at a store, any type of store, and you are going to make a charge with your plastic. Look down at the items you are going to charge and think to one's self 'Are these items necessary?' If you see yourself purchasing an item that is more of a want then a true need then easily put it back on the shelf, and commit to yourself when you have actual cash not a credit card, to return and buy that merchandise for yourself without charging your card. The key point here is to establish the difference between wants and needs, your food is a need, your soap is a need, the new DVD system is a want, the brand new pair of shoes are a want. A oil change for your car is a need, a turbocharger for your car is a want.

2. Obtaining Too Many Credit Cards!

This is the next large problem to individuals getting into major debt problems. People basically just can't refuse the credit card offers they receive. Debtors get solicited in the mail saying your already approved and your line of credit is 5k. For a lot of people this is too much to take on and they will accept every offer and almost instantly use them.

My advice:Simply throw them in the garbage! You don't need them. Think of every one of these credit solicitations you get in the mail as a giant financial time bomb waiting to blow up. The only way to cut it off is by tossing them promptly into the trash. Learn to resist the new credit offers you don't need them, this cannot be stressed loudly enough.

3. Cash Advances!

This is a very big factor in people stacking up debt. It seems just all to convenient to go to the ATM and withdraw cash against your card. However this becomes addictive to individuals and becomes a large reason why they accrue so much debt.

My Advice: Stay away from cash advances. This in reality is just about the same as just purchasing on your card, you are still going to be paying interest and rack up debt.
