The Importance of a Comic Book Storage System
If you have a valuable comic book collection, there are several ways to store it. Comic book storage is really quite versatile.
One of the most important things to remember is to keep them in specially made containers designed specifically for storing comic books or paper. That means anything you use for cardboard or paper storage (ie, comic books) should be lignin-free and acid-free. If you use plastic storage, it should be PVC-free.
Another thing: Store your collection in a climate controlled environment, stored away from direct sunlight. The average shed or upstairs attic is obviously not ideal!
There are many different items available for storing comic books. For most comics, plastic sleeves as well as acid-free resealable bags are perfect. For especially valuable comics, you should consider plastic boxes made especially for this purpose. If there are any adhesives involved in sealing these bags, you must make absolutely sure that the tape doesn't touch the books.
Where do you find plastic comic book boxes? Usually in shops that sell collectibles, or shops that sell storage and organizational containers. As an alternative, you should be able to find Mylar comic book sleeves that have special cardboard backing. This makes the container a little more sturdy, better protecting your book.
Now then, assuming you've stored all your most valuable books in individual containers, it's time to consider how to store the rest of your collection. You'll find that there are lots of different kinds of boxes that you can buy in comic book stores or online. They come in two different sizes. The short ones will holds about 100 books, while the longer ones can hold up to 300.
When you store your comic books, you may want to give some thought as to how you want to organize them. It's most common to organize them by comic book title, then in chronological order based on publication date. Whether you want to read them in the future or sell them, you'll be able to quickly and easily find any comic book you want in an organized comic book storage system.
