The Importance of Good Health
The most significant affair in this life is our health and we should do everything that we can to maintain the right balance. Surely other things are essential also, we need an sufficient amount of money to survive in the world, we need companionship and a roof over our head in order to preserve a vigorous state of being, but in one author's opinion, nothing is as crucial than our health. now that I've said this, how will I back it up?
While my opinions belong to me, they do have some substance and are not flights of fancy. I was forunate to have (or had) a very close friend whose center of attention in life money, this did not cause him to be a negative person, quite the opposite, more than once he came to me in times of need with a helping hand, as I write this he is no longer with us, he lost his health and then his life. This of course is a rare example and by no means do I want to paint this piece with despair, rather inspiration.
This is not an article for spiritual topics, yet in my heartI believe fervently that the essense that is us does not end and life is amerely rehearsal for what follows; having said that I want to live this life 110%, enjoying, taking in every molecue of air, feeling the exhilaration of the blowing wind in my hair and the beauty of a colorful twilight. When my journey is at an end, I'll walk unafraid to my maker, but until then, I want to walk boldly across the land and I can only do this with my health.
One reader wondered! 'Why is health more important than wealth?'
In my humble opinion, with our health we can go all-out, we can make a living, we can write resumes, go on career interviews, go after our dreams, tackle new projects, exceed our expectations, but only when we have the concentration and well being to do so. As I sit here pondering this, I'm looking across the river, it is quiet and serene and my mind is unburdened and can meander and fly, but my mind is fired by my energy and my energy by good nutrition, exercise and a upbeat outlook on my journey; again, all this happens because of excellent health.
Each night as I lay down to sleep, I think positive thoughts, I observe deep breathing, I connect with God (yes I believe He exists), and express thanks for my health, but I am careful to not take it for granted, I strive to keep it that way. Every day (and I do not get up early, tending to write late into the night) I'll perform limbering exercises and lite aerobics to speed up my metabolism. I'm fortunate, I do have good genetics, my dear mother lived to be 94 and my grandmother nearly the same, I was taught these practices and I do not take them, nor my health for granted.
I suppose I'm somewhat on a soapbox, having recently lost two close friends; two friends I thought the world of, but two friends who have now departed from this world. I do not grieve for these friends; feeling they now fly free, but I miss talking and sharing their company and wish they were still here with me.
If there is any moral to this, it is simply to be thankful for the life that is given you and to cherish it. While I can give you no crystal-clear answer as to what happens when we leave this life, I can tender this suggestion.
Live your life to the fullest, and appreciate every breath that you breathe.
