Easy to Do Nail Care Tips

by Jen Hopkins

Nail care is a very important part of personal grooming, especially for women who really take a lot of time and effort in making their nails look beautiful. Women who give a lot of importance to their nails would usually go to nails salons and spend money just to have their nails done. But with a few tips, you can have those beautiful nails with simple maintenance right at your own home.

The first thing that you should remember with nails is that they are constantly growing. This means that whatever you put into your body affects the way how your nails grow. Having bad eating habits and other vices such as smoking will not help in giving you strong and healthy nails. On the other hand, a good diet together with a healthy lifestyle can contribute to the growth of healthy nails.

One product that a lot of women use on their nails is nail polish. Aside from having protective effects, they also enhance to looks of nails, and this is why a lot of women enjoy applying these. They often use different colors to match their nails with their outfits. Unfortunately, constant exposure to nail polish can also lead to weakening of nails due to their chemical content. It is wise to let the nails breathe from time to time so that it is not in constant contact with the chemicals present in nail polishes.

In line with the use of nail polish, nail polish removers are also abused by some women. Those who constantly want to have a new color on their nails will always use removers so that they may apply a new color on their nails. The bad thing about these removers, especially acetone based ones, is that they can cause drying of the nails. Dry nails are easily prone to breaking thus it might be a good idea to limit the use of removers to once a week.

Similar to how nail polish removers cause nails to become dry, exposure to other chemicals can also lead to the weakening of nails. Chemicals such as bleach when used in cleaning can have the same effect as removers. Mechanical damage such as nail biting should also be avoided. It is best to avoid exposure to these substances and situations by wearing gloves at times when they are needed.

Moisturizing nails through the use of hand lotion may also be a good idea. After washing hands or exposing them to drying agents, the use of hand lotion will instantly hydrate your nails preventing them from drying out easily. An added bonus is that hands also stay soft and nice to touch.

For those who have naturally weak nails, the best solution is by eating the right kinds of food for you nails. Food that is rich in proteins, calcium and zinc may be good for the growth of your nails. Another practice that may help in strengthening your nails is by dipping them in warm olive oil for 30 minutes a few times each week.

By adding these nail care tips together with your basic nail care habits, you are sure to have healthy and beautiful nails. Remember that even though nails may seem sturdy, they can still be damaged if not properly taken care of. With the proper practices, you won't have to rely on nail salons to make your nails look beautiful for you.
